THE KICKER |
Launched in 2015 as an extension of the Above Average and the Broadway Video family, The Kicker was a digital destination for both diehard and casual sports fans. Created by Bryan Tucker, co-head writer at Saturday Night Live, I was the fifth employee hired at the site to manage content, set channel strategy and find/cultivate an audience. The Kicker thrived at growing a loyal fan base eager for the site's take on the sports news of the day, often interacting and engaging in real-time during major sporting events.
From a business standpoint, the team worked directly with athletes, brands, and leagues to develop original serial and episodic content. The Kicker's content was featured on Sportscenter, the ESPYs and the NBA All-Star Game. Highlights included working with NFL rookies for a series called Branding U starring SNL cast member Chris Redd, crafting in-game celebrations for the Monmouth benchwarmers, and pairing Leslie Jones with a greased-up John Cena.
